The word ageing has been defined variously "as those changes occurring in an individual as a result of the passage of time. Ageing is a part of living it beings with conception and terminates with death". The definition of aged officially accepted in India was 58 years, the age of superannuation. The determination of old age is naturally linked with the average life expectancy. Now a days, the institution of joint family has started disintegrating due to recent change in social values, social structure and economy resulting from industrialization and urbanization and consequent mobility, poverty, unemployment, under-employment and inflation have rendered the family members unable to discharge their duties to the aged.
The generation gap is widening, the attitude of youngsters is now becoming more individualistic and unquestioned regard for authority and respect to the elders is vanishing. The constantly worsening economic situation makes it difficult for most of the families to make their both ends meet, consequently affecting the aged and their firm adversely, some of them who are neglected and frustrated that they are obliged to leave their families and fend of themselves. For these Elders we had started the Old Age Home which gives free food and shelter. They are also given care and protection, medical care, counseling etc.
